Stockbridge Village Assault: Man Dies Following Incident at The Village Chippy, Murder Investigation Underway

A murder investigation has been launched in Stockbridge Village after a 54-year-old man sadly died following an assault at a local takeaway.

The incident occurred on Friday, 17 April, at around 7:30pm inside The Village Chippy on Leach Croft, where the victim was reportedly attacked by another man.

Emergency services were not initially alerted by police but were contacted the following day by the North West Ambulance Service after the victim was taken to hospital with a serious head injury. Despite medical treatment, the man passed away on Tuesday, 21 April.

Specialist officers are now supporting the victim’s family as they continue to cope with the tragedy. A post-mortem examination will be carried out to determine the exact cause of death.

Merseyside Police has confirmed that a murder investigation is now underway. A 25-year-old man from Stockbridge Village, previously arrested on suspicion of Section 18 wounding with intent, remains on conditional bail.

Detective Chief Inspector Cath Cummings said the force’s thoughts are with the victim’s loved ones and reassured the community that a thorough investigation is ongoing. She also urged witnesses inside The Village Chippy at the time of the incident to come forward with any information.

Police are appealing for information via their contact channels, with anonymous reports also accepted through Crimestoppers.
