Abbotsford Schools Lockdown Today: Police Confirm Swatting Incident Behind Threats
ABBOTSFORD, B.C. — Several schools in Abbotsford were placed under temporary lockdown after authorities responded to reports of potential threats, which police now believe were part of a swatting incident.
According to the Abbotsford Police Department (AbbyPD), school officials received a threatening email early Monday morning referencing possible violence at multiple schools. In response, officers immediately attended the affected campuses and initiated precautionary lockdown and shelter-in-place procedures to ensure student and staff safety.
The schools involved included Abbotsford Senior Secondary, Abbotsford Middle School, W.J. Mouat Secondary, and Chief Dan George Middle School.
After a rapid investigation and security sweep, police confirmed that no active threat was present. The lockdowns were lifted the same day, and normal school activities resumed.
Swatting Investigation Underway
Authorities say the incident appears to be a case of “swatting,” where false emergency reports are made to trigger a heavy police response and disrupt public services. Investigators are currently working to identify the individual or group responsible.
Police also confirmed that officers remained in the area as a precaution even after the all-clear was given.
Community Impact
The incident caused concern among parents and students, highlighting ongoing challenges schools face with false threat reports. Officials emphasized that all safety protocols were followed and that student safety remains the top priority.
No arrests have been made so far, and the investigation is ongoing.
