Authorities in San Jose have charged a 17-year-old suspect in connection with the tragic death of a 2-year-old boy known as Baby Jaxon, a case that has raised serious concerns about foster care oversight and child safety.
According to investigators, the toddler—who had been placed in foster care following the death of his mother, Brianna Burton—was found unresponsive in his crib on Easter Sunday with multiple suspicious injuries. Emergency responders rushed the child to the hospital, where he was placed on life support. He later died on April 9.

Prosecutors allege that the teenager, who is the victim’s cousin and the son of the foster mother, subjected the child to repeated physical and sexual abuse over several weeks.
